Traditional dentures vs. snap-on dentures.
We offer two types of dentures, and the right choice depends on your bone density, the number of remaining teeth, your budget, and your lifestyle.
Traditional dentures
Custom-fitted removable appliances that rest on your gums and rely on natural suction (and, if preferred, adhesive) to stay in place. Available as full dentures (replacing all teeth in an arch) or partial dentures (replacing several missing teeth while working around remaining natural teeth).
Snap-on dentures (implant-supported)
A hybrid solution that uses a small number of dental implants as anchors. The denture “snaps” onto the implants for a secure, stable fit during the day and can be removed for cleaning at night. Significantly more stable than traditional dentures — no slipping, no adhesive required.
What to Expect
A process that’s personal from start to finish.
Getting fitted for dentures takes several appointments over a few weeks. We take impressions, create models, and have you try in the denture before it’s finalized — so you can see and feel how it will look and fit before it’s complete.
For snap-on dentures, implant placement happens first (see our Dental Implants page for details on that process), followed by a healing period, and then the attachment of the denture once everything is secure.
Adjusting to dentures takes time — a few weeks is normal. We’ll schedule follow-up appointments to make sure everything fits comfortably and make any adjustments needed.

What patients ask about dentures.
Traditional dentures rely on suction and, often, adhesive to stay in place. Snap-on dentures attach to implants in the jawbone, giving them a much more secure fit. They don’t slip while eating or speaking, and because the implants stimulate the jawbone, they help prevent the bone loss that typically accompanies tooth loss.
Traditional dentures typically last 5–10 years before needing replacement, as the gum and bone change shape over time. The implants supporting snap-on dentures can last much longer; the denture attachment may need servicing every few years. Regular dental visits help us monitor fit and make adjustments early.
Modern dentures are far more natural-looking than older versions. We customize the shape, color, and size of the teeth to complement your facial features. Most people can’t tell the difference from a normal smile.
Most PPO plans cover dentures as a major restorative service, typically at 50% after your deductible. Implant-supported snap-on dentures may have partial coverage depending on your plan. We verify benefits before treatment so you know what to expect.
